Woofun AI reports that ByteDance is restructuring its AI resource allocation, moving strategic emphasis away from mass-market consumer applications toward enterprise-focused services. This pivot is driven by the unsustainable economics of its consumer flagship, 'Doubao,' which serves over 200 million daily active users but incurs tens of millions in daily inference costs while generating less than one million in daily revenue. In contrast, the company's video generation model, Seedance, leverages an efficient MoE architecture to achieve a 70% gross margin and $2 billion in annual recurring revenue, with the majority of income derived from enterprise clients.
Concurrently, ByteDance has expanded its large model data review team to over 3,000 personnel to enhance training data quality for programming models. The Volcano Engine MaaS division has been elevated in strategic importance, with leadership targeting a tenfold revenue increase and accelerated international expansion. Recent executive visits to Anthropic further underscore this enterprise-centric direction, citing the US firm's success in AI programming services as a key benchmark for ByteDance's evolving business model.
