Woofun AI reports that Dragonfly General Partner Haseeb Qureshi has formally retracted his earlier assessment regarding the trajectory of artificial intelligence model development. Qureshi previously argued that discrepancies in data access, hardware availability, and distillation constraints would inevitably widen the performance divide between open-source and closed-source models.
However, recent developments have prompted a reversal of this stance.
The shift in perspective follows the exceptional benchmark performance of SmartSpectra's Z.ai model, which has demonstrated capabilities that challenge the notion of an insurmountable gap. Early user feedback has further reinforced the model's viability.
Concurrently, Qureshi disclosed that he is actively testing his Hermes Agent on GLM 5.2 via the AskVenice API, indicating a continued commitment to evaluating real-world utility across different model architectures.
