Per Woofun AI, U.S. President Donald Trump disclosed in an Axios interview that he no longer views artificial intelligence firm Anthropic as a national security threat, marking a significant reversal from his position just one week prior. This diplomatic pivot occurred after a direct conversation between Trump and Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei during the G7 summit luncheon, effectively de-escalating tensions that had previously led to strict regulatory measures.
The earlier friction stemmed from disputes over 'jailbreak' vulnerabilities in the Fable 5 and Mythos 5 models, prompting the U.S. Department of Commerce to issue an export control order on June 12 that blocked model exports and restricted foreign personnel access. Subsequent negotiations focused on establishing technical standards, with the White House, Department of Commerce, National Cyber Director, and senior Anthropic officials collaborating to define benchmarks for model vulnerability assessment. Trump noted that Amodei swiftly complied with rectification demands, a development that removes policy barriers for Anthropic's initial public offering and global expansion. As of June 2026, Anthropic reported annualized recurring revenue of $47 billion and a valuation of $965 billion, having already submitted its IPO application. Regarding future oversight, Trump emphasized a preference for avoiding domestic industry shutdowns to maintain competitiveness against China, while reserving the right to invoke emergency administrative powers or the Defense Production Act if necessary.
