Woofun AI reports that cryptocurrency industry donations are reshaping the 2026 US Democratic primaries through a controversial strategy dubbed 'Blackwashing.' The Fairshake Network, backed by Coinbase, Ripple, and a16z, has directed significant capital toward candidates in predominantly Black districts while deliberately excluding cryptocurrency from campaign messaging. In Maryland, the 'Protect Progress' PAC contributed over $4.9 million to support Adrian Boafo in the fifth district, utilizing advertisements focused on ICE restrictions and cost of living rather than digital assets.
This operational pattern extends beyond Maryland. The network allocated more than $5 million in Texas to assist Christian Menefee in defeating anti-crypto incumbent Al Green, and approximately $4 million in Georgia to secure Jasmine Clark's primary victory. Industry insiders clarify that funding decisions prioritize regulatory alignment over racial demographics, noting that the same PACs have spent heavily to defeat Black lawmakers who oppose cryptocurrency legislation.
Concurrently, Senate Banking Committee passed the CLARITY Act on May 14th, with Senator Angela Alsobrooks playing a pivotal role in its advancement ahead of the June 1st full Senate vote.
