Hyperscalers Project to Double Bond Issuance in 2027-2028 for AI Data Center Expansion

Citrine Research disclosed the 'AI Doomsday Report,' revealing that hyperscale cloud providers are anticipated to more than double their bond issuance volume in 2027 and 2028 relative to current market consensus. This surge in debt financing is primarily necessitated by the escalating capital requirements for constructing AI-focused data centers.

For 2026, AI-related debt issuance is projected to approach $570 billion, while total capital expenditures for hyperscalers are expected to surpass $600 billion. This trajectory indicates a strategic shift away from reliance on internal cash reserves toward greater dependence on the bond market to sustain infrastructure growth.
