Per Woofun AI, Clément Lesaege, founder of the decentralized dispute resolution platform Kleros, submitted a proposal titled 'Validator Revenue Redirection Mechanism' on the ETH open-source research forum EthResear.ch. The initiative introduces a protocol-level framework enabling validators to allocate a portion of their staking rewards toward supporting public products within the Ethereum ecosystem.
The mechanism stipulates that if over 51% of validators consent to dedicate a specific percentage of their staking income to ecosystem funding, the redirection rule becomes mandatory for all participants. The allocation cap is set at 10% of staking rewards, with a floor of 0%. Validators retain autonomy in selecting funded organizations and determining allocation ratios. Client-side implementation leverages straightforward aggregation methods, such as King-of-the-Hill or Condorcet voting, to minimize governance overhead and achieve a 'no-interaction-after-setting' model. The proposal also addresses potential risks, including validator collusion and principal-agent conflicts arising from divergent preferences between staking service providers and their clients. The proposal remains in the discussion phase.
