Bitcoin Developers Propose Removing Explicit RBF Signals to Reduce Wallet Fingerprints
2026-06-22 14:59

Woofun AI reports that Bitcoin developers are discussing the removal of explicit Replace-by-Fee (RBF) signals from the Bitcoin Core wallet. Developer rkrux argued that since full-RBF has become the standard strategy, the BIP 125 signal is now redundant and creates unnecessary wallet chain fingerprints.

Community member Murch noted that eliminating replaceability signals does not fully solve fingerprinting issues, as senders must still choose sequence numbers. Currently, about 75% of transactions use specific sequence numbers, primarily MAX-2. rkrux suggested that the default input sequence number should align with best practices recognized by the broader wallet community.
