South Korea Semiconductor Exports Projected to Surge Past $42 Billion in June Amid AI Demand

Data compiled by Woofun AI shows that South Korea's semiconductor storage exports are poised to breach the $37.16 billion record set in May, with June totals projected between $38 billion and $42 billion. Customs data reveals that exports from June 1 to 20 already surpassed $23 billion, representing over 60% of the previous month's volume. This surge is attributed to structural expansion in the AI storage supercycle, where high demand for High Bandwidth Memory (HBM) has constrained supply across general DRAM, NAND, and SSD sectors.

The export value of HBM jumped 51% period-over-period, fueled by continued investment from NVIDIA in AI data centers and tight supply dynamics led by SK Hynix for HBM3E and HBM4. Consequently, wafer capacity shifts have reduced general DRAM availability, driving unit prices to two or three times their year-ago levels.

Concurrently, demand for NAND and SSDs rose by 25% to 28% due to expanded AI inference server deployments. Reflecting this robust performance, Hana Financial Investment Corp. has upgraded profit forecasts, noting that long-term supply agreements and HBM dominance will mitigate future downside risks for the industry.
