Per Woofun AI, the Metropolitan Police arrested 44-year-old Hu Xiaowei, a Cypriot citizen and senior member of the Taizi Group, on charges of falsifying electromagnetic notarization documents. Authorities allege that Hu submitted a fraudulent residence registration form in April this year, falsely claiming a move from Osaka to Chuo-ku, Tokyo, to obtain Japanese permanent residency. He was detained in Osaka on the 14th of this month, alongside two Chinese nationals charged with assisting in the false declarations. Police have seized mobile devices and are continuing their investigation.

This arrest aligns with broader international enforcement actions against the Taizi Group. The US Treasury Department and Justice Department added the group to sanctions lists in October 2025 for conducting international online fraud, including fake investment scams via 'call centers' in Cambodia. The sanctions targeted 146 individuals and entities, including 'Chen Xiaoeer,' whom Japanese police identified as Hu Xiaowei. Previously, Taizi Group chairman Chen Zhi was detained by Cambodian authorities and repatriated to China. Following Chen Zhi's detention, the UK imposed additional sanctions on the Southeast Asian fraud network, identifying Hu Xiaowei under the alias 'Wu Anming' as Chen Zhi's long-term collaborator providing financial and technical support.
