Woofun AI reports that Advantest has entered a strategic partnership with silicon photonics firm OpenLight to engineer high-volume production testing solutions for photonic devices. This collaboration addresses critical structural bottlenecks in electro-optical device mass production, driven by the rapid adoption of Co-Packaged Optics (CPO) technology in AI and high-performance computing data centers. OpenLight, which recently secured $50 million in its Series A-1 round bringing total funding to $84 million, is expanding its ecosystem through partnerships with Jabil, Marvell, MaxLinear, Tower Semiconductor, and TFC Optical.
This alliance positions Advantest in direct competition with Teradyne's Photon 100 within the electro-optical testing segment, escalating rivalry between the two semiconductor automatic test equipment oligopolies. Serenity pointed out that for non-accredited investors, although they cannot directly invest in private companies like OpenLight, given the highly interconnected nature of the optical industry chain, by strategically positioning in the above-mentioned relevant listed companies, they can also indirectly gain exposure to the silicon photonics track's growth.
