Woofun AI reports that Microsoft's Digital Crimes Unit utilized Copilot and other AI tools to analyze malicious code, identifying shared digital infrastructure between Amadey and StealC malware. This analysis revealed that both programs infected over 140,000 computers globally in the first two weeks of May. Amadey facilitates device access, while StealC extracts sensitive data from browsers, wallets, and messaging apps.
Microsoft filed a single civil lawsuit under the U.S. Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, consolidating claims against multiple parties involved in the supply chain. The operation involved collaboration with Europol, German and Dutch police forces, the Danish National Police, IBM, and Proofpoint. Microsoft officials noted that AI is driving hackers toward specialized division of labor, shifting defense strategies from targeting individual actors to addressing entire toolchains.
