Woofun AI reports that Italian AI startup Domyn intends to release a fully open-source large model exceeding 400 billion parameters within one year. The EUROPA alliance, established with Germany's Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft, was selected for the European Commission's Frontier AI Grand Challenge and secured computational support from EuroHPC.
The initiative aims to mitigate reliance on overseas hosting systems amid concerns over US export controls and restrictions on remote services by Chinese firms. Training data will be sourced from institutional partners, with government data sharing agreements anticipated following meetings with European heads of state. Domyn CEO Uljan Sharka stated that training costs are lower than providing remote inference, noting that European public compute networks now meet R&D needs. The project has garnered backing from G42, Eurizon Capital, Rabobank, and BNY Mellon.
