Woofun AI reports that the Russian Ministry of Energy has drafted a government resolution to prohibit cryptocurrency mining in specific zones of Moscow, Moscow Oblast, and Kursk Oblast. The proposed ban is scheduled to commence on July 1, 2026, and remain in force until December 31, 2032.
The restriction covers multiple municipal districts in Kursk Oblast, including Belovsky and Bolshosolsky, as well as the city of Ligov. This initiative follows earlier statements by Deputy Minister Evgeny Grabchak and Moscow Oblast Energy Minister Sergey Voropanov supporting such measures. Current infrastructure data indicates 65 operational data centers in the Moscow region with a total capacity of 734 megawatts, of which 19 are located in Moscow Oblast with 233 megawatts capacity. Previous bans have already been implemented in Buryatia, Transbaikal, and several southern regions, with varying expiration dates extending to 2031.
