Core Product Lead Tibo Sottiaux confirmed that the system incorrectly flagged legitimate activity, leading to accelerated quota exhaustion. The issue, which began around June 16 and gained traction on June 25, resulted in some accounts depleting limits 10 to 20 times faster than usual. Despite internal data suggesting a limited scope of affected users, OpenAI opted for a universal free reset to address widespread developer complaints regarding exhausted budgets and delayed support responses.
