Woofun AI reports that Samsung Electronics is in the final stages of negotiating a supply agreement with a major US tech firm for AI server MLCCs valued at approximately 500 billion Korean won. This contract represents roughly 10% of the company's components division revenue from the previous year. Each AI server requires between 15,000 and 25,000 MLCCs, a quantity exceeding smartphone requirements by more than ten times, while unit prices remain over three times higher than those for mobile products. Samsung currently commands over 20% of the global MLCC market share, placing it second in the industry.
Additionally, Samsung will officially sign a joint venture agreement with Sumitomo Chemical this week to develop glass substrates. The partners will jointly invest 500 billion Korean won, with Samsung contributing around 300 billion won to secure a majority stake. The new entity will operate out of TOYO Precision Chemical's Pyeongtaek facility and is scheduled to commence operations early next year. Glass substrates offer superior heat resistance compared to traditional plastic alternatives and can support higher loads of HBM and GPUs.
