OpenAI Fixes Codex Cap Exhaustion Vulnerabilities and Performs Third Full Reset
2026-06-30 09:07

Woofun AI reports that OpenAI has identified the root cause of abnormal credit consumption in its AI Codex product. Chief Product Officer Tibo Sottiaux confirmed that a fix patch has been fully deployed to address the issue.

The anomaly stemmed from a combination of backend issues and display errors rather than a single vulnerability. Excessive automatic reviews unintentionally triggered numerous sub-agent tasks, while backend recommendation failures caused repeated retries, resulting in exponential token depletion.

Additionally, automatic reviews were incorrectly categorized as GPT-5.4 consumption, and failed or rate-limited requests were erroneously displayed as credit usage on frontend charts. A hotfix has been synchronized across the billing backend, desktop client, and CLI terminal. All user quotas have been reset, and a limited-time 24-hour reset card will be provided. Future Turn usage charts will only reflect successful interaction requests.
