Woofun AI reports that Elvira Nabiullina, Governor of the Central Bank of Russia, confirmed the digital ruble will launch on September 1 as a supplement to the fiat ruble, with financial institutions initially accepting it. Development began in 2021, and First Deputy Governor Vladimir Chistyukhin stated related laws take effect on September 1 with a transition period until July 2027.

The European Union implemented preemptive sanctions on the digital ruble effective April 2025 regarding the war in Ukraine.

Meanwhile, a U.S. housing bill containing a CBDC ban has been submitted to President Trump; if unsigned within 10 days, it automatically takes effect with a ban lasting until 2030.
