Brazil VASP Regulation Aligns With Securities Brokers, Effective 2027
2026-07-03 16:01

Woofun AI reports that the Central Bank of Brazil issued Resolution No. 580/2026, designating Virtual Asset Service Providers (VASPs) as Type 3 entities. This classification subjects VASPs to regulatory standards equivalent to those for securities brokers, dealers, and forex brokers.

Effective January 1, 2027, VASPs must adhere to requirements covering risk management, capital adequacy, and information disclosure. By June 30, 2028, all providers will integrate into the Segment 4 framework, losing access to the simplified Segment 5 regime for low-risk entities. The Central Bank cited the "same business, same risk, same regulation" principle to align with international standards.
