Aptos Fixes Critical Move VM Vulnerability Exposing $70B to Risk
2026-07-05 08:33

Woofun AI reports that Hexens white hat hackers identified a critical 'expired cache vulnerability' within the Aptos blockchain's Move virtual machine. This flaw could induce type confusion, allowing attackers to misidentify on-chain resources and potentially expose up to $70 billion in digital assets, including stablecoins and cross-chain bridges, to systemic risk.

Researchers successfully simulated the attack with over 90% success rate using a server setup costing only $3,000, which mimicked one-third of the validator network without requiring special permissions. The Aptos development team promptly patched the vulnerability upon notification in late February, resulting in zero financial losses.
