Woofun AI reports that security firm Hexens identified and helped resolve a critical vulnerability within the Aptos blockchain infrastructure. The flaw, located in the Move virtual machine, involved an "expired cache vulnerability" leading to type confusion, which could allow attackers to misidentify on-chain resources. Researchers demonstrated that the exploit could be executed with over 90% success using a $3,000 server to replicate one-third of the validator network, posing a systemic risk to up to $70 billion in digital assets including stablecoins and bridges. The Aptos development team implemented a fix shortly after the late February disclosure, preventing any financial losses.
