This volume represents approximately 3.2% of US Gross Domestic Product, marking the first instance where annual AI infrastructure investment exceeds national defense spending, which is estimated at 2.7% of GDP.

For the current year, 2026, these five entities are expected to spend over $800 billion on AI, raising their share of GDP from 1.5% in 2025 to roughly 2.5%. This trajectory indicates a rapid acceleration in tech sector investment relative to federal military budgets.
