Woofun AI reports that ByteDance, Alibaba, and Tencent are disabling or adjusting custom "AI companion" features in their large-scale model applications to comply with upcoming regulations. ByteDance's Bean will remove its custom character function on July 15, urging users to migrate to independent companion apps.
The adjustments align with China's new Generative AI regulations effective mid-July, which prohibit content triggering extreme emotions in minors and ban inducing pathological emotional dependencies. The rules also forbid using sensitive conversation data for model training, contrasting with legal pressures faced by US platforms like OpenAI and Character.AI over similar concerns.
