KOSPI Volatility Surges 77 Times Over 2% Threshold
2026-07-07 12:31

Woofun AI data shows that the KOSPI index experienced single-day volatility exceeding 2% on 77 occasions over the past year, compared to only 5 instances for the S&P 500. The Korean benchmark also saw 44 days with swings over 3% and 23 days exceeding 5%, while the U.S. index never breached the 3% mark.

This extreme fluctuation has attracted retail investors seeking trading opportunities, according to Maxence Visseau of Arkevium Capital, who noted that "volatility is the key attraction" for thrill-seekers.

However, foreign capital outflows surpassed $100 billion in the first half of the year, including $30 billion in June, a trend that may result in losses for local participants.
