USDT Returns to Bitcoin Network via RGB Protocol with UTEXO Handling Issuance

Woofun AI reports that Tether is preparing to issue USDT natively on the Bitcoin network using the RGB v0.11.1 protocol, with UTEXO managing commercial issuance and distribution. This marks the first return of USDT to the Bitcoin main chain since its initial launch via the Omni protocol in 2014. UTEXO co-founder Viktor Ihnatiuk confirmed that the company has secured support from Tether to facilitate the deployment of Bitcoin-native USDT.

The RGB protocol employs Client-side Validation and integrates with the Lightning Network to enable instant, low-cost, and private transactions while inheriting the Bitcoin UTXO security model. Users will be able to hold USDT directly via native Bitcoin addresses and utilize Lightning Network wallets supporting RGB for transactions, eliminating reliance on other blockchains or intermediaries. Compared to account-based networks like TRON and Ethereum, RGB’s UTXO model supports single-use addresses and off-chain payments, enhancing privacy. UTEXO’s integration with Tether reduces intermediary fees and data collection, while its existing cross-chain bridges allow low-cost USDT conversion across different blockchains.
