South Korea Considers 4 Trillion Won Budget for Extended AI GPU Support Program

Woofun AI reports that the South Korean Ministry of Science and ICT is evaluating an extension of the "AI Computing Resource Utilization Enhancement Project" through increased GPU procurement. The initiative involves government-funded GPU deployment in cloud data centers to bolster research and industrial applications, with allocations rising from 1 trillion won last year to 2 trillion won this year for over 20,000 units.

With the project originally slated to conclude this year, officials are addressing surging demand for advanced chips like NVIDIA’s Vera Rubin by exploring data center efficiency upgrades and new space allocations. Industry estimates indicate the next fiscal budget could reach 4 trillion won, though experts warn that limited installation space and power infrastructure, rather than chip supply, may become the primary bottleneck.
