OpenAI Discontinues Atlas Browser, Integrating Features into ChatGPT Desktop
2026-07-10 09:29

Woofun AI reports that OpenAI will cease operations of its standalone browser, ChatGPT Atlas, effective August 9, less than a year after its initial launch. The browser's core functionalities are being absorbed into ChatGPT and Codex, marking the first step in merging these previously separate products into a single desktop application.

The updated ChatGPT desktop client now supports multi-tab browsing, file downloads, website logins, and Agent-based web interaction, with additional access via a Chrome extension. Users must manually export bookmarks and save critical pages before the shutdown, as no automatic data transfer for history or tabs will occur.
