Zcash Ironwood Upgrade Activates July 28 to Patch Orchard Pool Vulnerability
2026-07-10 11:10

Woofun AI reports that Zcash core developer Sean Bowe confirmed the NU6.3 'Ironwood' mainnet activation is set for block height 3,428,143, scheduled for 8:00 PM Beijing time on July 28. This upgrade addresses a critical vulnerability in the Orchard Pool that theoretically allowed attackers to mint infinite fake ZEC, with the team unable to verify if exploitation occurred prior to the fix.

The Ironwood update implements two primary measures: deploying a new privacy pool based on the Orchard protocol to replace the compromised one, and integrating a control signal into the zk-SNARK circuit. This signal enables the disabling of inter-user transfers within the pool while preserving the change output functionality.
