Woofun AI reports that Lawson will initiate a pilot program for yen-based stablecoin JPYC payments at its Takanawa Gateway City store in Minato-ku, Tokyo, starting in early August. Collaborating with digital asset wallet provider HashPort, the convenience chain enables consumers to settle transactions via smartphone e-wallets directly at the register. This initiative constitutes the first stablecoin payment trial in Japan integrated with a point-of-sale system, allowing direct use of the 1:1 pegged JPYC for retail purchases.
