Linux Foundation Launches x402 Foundation With Visa And Mastercard As Founding Members
2026-07-15 14:13

Woofun AI reports that the Linux Foundation has officially launched the x402 Foundation, governed by 40 member companies including Visa, Mastercard, Ripple, and Google. Coinbase has completed its contribution to the protocol, which was previously incubated by the exchange.

The x402 protocol allows servers to return 402 responses with pricing, enabling clients to sign stablecoin transfers, typically USDC, without requiring accounts or credit cards. This structure supports seamless data access for AI agent applications. The foundation operates independently following its migration from Coinbase in April.
