This surge occurs despite the index rising 18% cumulatively since late March. Russell 3000 constituents exhibit a parallel trend, with short interest reaching a record 6.3%. Ihor Dusaniwsky, Managing Director of Predictive Analytics at S3 Partners, stated: "Shorting activity has increased, and the universe of securities being shorted has expanded."
