EIP-8222 Proposes STARK-Based Validator Privacy Enhancements for ETH Staking

Woofun AI reports that Ethereum Improvement Proposal EIP-8222 intends to utilize STARK-based cryptographic mechanisms to decouple staking deposits from withdrawals, thereby re-anonymizing validators and reducing activity traceability. Currently, approximately one-third of all ETH is staked.

Thibault Dubuis, Head of Staking and Decentralized Finance Products at Sygnum Bank, noted that existing visible links between deposit addresses, validators, and withdrawal credentials expose institutional holdings, entry timings, and strategies. The proposal remains in the discussion phase without a deployment timeline. Its design may involve fixed deposit denominations and withdrawal waiting periods, potentially imposing higher execution costs and compliance overhead on institutional users.
