S&P 500 Short Ratio Hits 3.7%, Near Highest Level Since 2010

This level approaches the highest reading since 2010, while the Russell 3000 ratio climbed to roughly 6.1%, also nearing historical peaks. Both metrics have trended upward since the start of 2025.

Additionally, the short interest ratio for all New York Stock Exchange listed stocks reached 9.0% in late June, establishing a new all-time high. For context, this indicator peaked at around 5.0% during the 2008 financial crisis and approximately 6.0% during the 2020 pandemic period.
