Woofun AI reports that Pakistan's Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has established a cryptocurrency investigation department within the National Command and Control Center. Muhammad Athar Waheed, head of the FIA's anti-terrorism department, stated the unit will investigate crimes such as money laundering and terrorist financing involving digital assets. The department will cooperate with the Pakistan Virtual Assets Regulatory Authority (PVARA) on law enforcement efforts. Waheed also recommended that the National Cyber Crime Investigation Agency (NCCIA) and the Anti-Narcotics Force create specialized teams to address cybercrime and drug trafficking linked to cryptocurrencies.
Pakistan has advanced its digital asset regulatory framework, passing the Virtual Assets Act in March to establish PVARA as a permanent federal regulator. PVARA issues licenses to trading platforms, custodians, and token issuers, having already granted operating licenses to Binance and HTX. PVARA Chairman Bilal bin Saqib previously announced plans for a national sovereign stablecoin and a Bitcoin reserve, alongside allocating 2000 megawatts of electricity for Bitcoin mining and AI data centers.
