Woofun AI reports that the Korea Internet Security Agency and the Ministry of Science and ICT have initiated the "Deposit Token Payment Infrastructure Expansion Project." This initiative aims to extend findings from the "Project Hangang" CBDC pilot into the private payment sector. Managed by the Financial Settlement Service, the program engages 9 banks, 8 payment gateways, and 2 large-scale users with a budget of 9.6 billion won. The strategy focuses on reducing costs for small and micro businesses by leveraging existing payment systems, enabling transactions via bank deposit token wallets without requiring terminal replacements.
Additionally, the government intends to test deposit tokens for official travel expenses and collaborate with dBrain on treasury fund management.
