Woofun AI reports that Sandy Kaul, Head of Digital Assets and Innovation at Franklin Templeton, identifies the AI agent economy as a primary catalyst for blockchain protocol adoption. Kaul argues that traditional banking infrastructure fails to meet the requirements for machine-to-machine micropayments due to prohibitive fees and slow settlement cycles.
Kaul highlights that networks such as Solana, Aptos, and BNB Chain offer superior suitability for this sector by settling transactions in seconds, significantly faster than the one to three business days typical of the Visa network. A joint report by Visa and Artemis confirms that standard card systems are ill-equipped for high-frequency AI activities requiring near-zero costs.
Meanwhile, Coinbase’s x402 protocol has processed $15 million in adjusted volume and over 109 million transactions since its May 2025 launch.
