Woofun AI reports that OpenAI intends to construct Project Camellia in Effingham County, Georgia, a data center campus valued at a minimum of $20 billion. The facility spans 1,400 acres and demands 3.2 gigawatts of power, with energy supply phased from 2028 to 2032 under an agreement with Georgia Power.

The project remains in early development regarding infrastructure and financing. OpenAI commits to $80 million in community benefits and up to $71 million in Codex credits for local students. Effingham County officials highlight low water usage, no resident energy cost increases, and the creation of thousands of construction jobs alongside over 1,000 operational roles.
