Coinbase Unveils Post-Quantum Crypto Plan for CoreKMS Upgrade
2026-07-23 20:26

Woofun AI reports that Coinbase has detailed a three-pronged strategy to implement post-quantum cryptography. The firm plans to develop PQ-CoreKMS, an automated signing system supporting post-quantum algorithms for its CoreKMS infrastructure, within one year.

Additionally, Coinbase will host a migration workshop with Stanford University and contribute engineering resources to the Bitcoin Security Consortium, alongside members like BlackRock and Fidelity Digital Assets, to support open-source proposals such as BIP-360. Chief Information Security Officer Jeff Lunglhofer emphasized that while large-scale quantum computers are not an immediate threat, preparations must begin now to address operational challenges in user migration and protocol upgrades.
