Woofun AI reports that the European Union has enacted Council Decision (CFSP) 2026/1847, prohibiting Belarusian citizens and residents from owning, controlling, or managing crypto service providers under the Markets in Crypto-Assets Regulation (MiCA). The measure, adopted on July 24, officially takes effect on August 25, extending existing sanctions frameworks related to the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
The restrictions cover a broad range of MiCA-defined services, including operating trading platforms, executing customer orders, asset issuance, transfer services, investment consulting, and portfolio management. This action follows the conclusion of the MiCA transition period on July 1, during which unapproved entities were ordered to cease operations. The EU stated these measures aim to prevent the use of crypto platforms to circumvent sanctions against Russia, complementing earlier bans on 14 non-EU crypto service providers linked to sanctions evasion.
