Woofun AI reports that a specialized joint investigation unit for financial securities and virtual-asset crimes, operating under the Seoul Southern District Prosecutors’ Office, has executed a major crackdown on illicit financial activities. This coordinated effort by South Korea’s Justice Ministry targets complex networks exploiting digital assets for illegal gains.
The operation preserved 381.4 billion won, equivalent to approximately $275 million, in proceeds derived from financial, securities, and virtual-asset crimes. These assets, secured between June last year and May 2026, consist of cryptocurrencies, cash, real estate, and other property linked to illegal operations.
Woofun AI data shows enforcement actions resulted in 304 suspects being booked and 25 individuals arrested over the past twelve months. The investigations primarily addressed securities manipulation, fraud, and market manipulation, which have caused significant investor losses and facilitated money laundering. This surge in activity aligns with South Korea’s intensified regulatory oversight and strengthened legal frameworks for virtual asset regulation.
Preserved funds will be returned to victims or forfeited to the state, marking a decisive step in asset recovery. Legal experts note that the scale of the seizure reflects growing sophistication in tracking crypto assets across exchanges and wallets. This enforcement action serves as a benchmark for international cooperation in virtual asset regulation.
