Woofun AI reports that HYPE has entered a volatile correction phase, sliding from recent highs near $70 down to the $58 region, marking a sharp reversal for one of 2026’s top-performing assets.
The primary catalyst for this downturn appears to be aggressive profit-taking by Multicoin Capital, which is liquidating positions accumulated months prior. The firm originally acquired 606,091 tokens at an average cost of approximately $30 five months ago, a purchase totaling $36.5 million. Just six hours ago, Multicoin Capital deposited 395,570 tokens, valued at $23.78 million, into an exchange and simultaneously requested the unstaking of 211,486 tokens, worth $12.94 million. This coordinated exit strategy has contributed to a 15% decline in the token’s value over the past week, including a 7% drop in the last 24 hours. Despite this recent pullback, HYPE retains a substantial 129% gain since the beginning of 2026, underscoring the magnitude of the earlier rally that preceded this selling pressure.
Further exacerbating the sell-off are large-scale unstaking events linked to institutional players, according to on-chain data. Data reveals that Multicoin Capital transferred nearly 400,000 HYPE tokens to an exchange while concurrently requesting the unstaking of another 212,000 tokens. In a broader context, three Multicoin wallets collectively unstaked almost 1.96 million HYPE, representing approximately $120 million in value, after holding these positions for nearly two months. This timing is particularly notable given that Multicoin had published a bullish report only weeks earlier, projecting a long-term price target of $319. With average purchase prices near the $30 level, selling at current market rates yields significant profits, leading many market participants to question whether the initial phase of profit-taking has already commenced.
Woofun AI data shows institutional demand has simultaneously weakened, compounding the pressure from whale activity. Spot HYPE ETFs recorded net outflows of 11,210 tokens on July 21, signaling a retreat from passive investment vehicles. This follows an earlier withdrawal of more than 90,000 HYPE earlier in the month, which constituted the largest daily outflow to date. Continued capital extraction from these funds may diminish buying support in upcoming trading sessions, leaving the market more susceptible to downward volatility.
Technical indicators further reflect growing caution among traders. HYPE recently broke below the support level of a symmetrical triangle pattern that had guided price action for several weeks. The Relative Strength Index has fallen near 40, indicating weakening momentum, while the Chaikin Money Flow indicator has turned negative, suggesting that capital is continuing to leave the market. The next critical support zone lies between $54 and $55; buyers must defend this area to prevent further deterioration. A successful rebound could lift HYPE toward $63, potentially setting up another attempt at the $67 to $70 range.
However, failure to hold support could expose the token to a deeper decline toward $48.
Current market conditions remain mixed, with whale activity continuing to dominate sentiment across the crypto market. Technical indicators favor caution in the short term, and the next few trading sessions will likely determine whether buyers can regain control or if sellers will extend the correction further.
