Crypto exchange Bullish has formally expanded its integration with Ripple Prime, granting institutional clients direct access to regulated Bitcoin (BTC) options trading. This strategic move augments the existing connectivity for spot, perpetual, and futures markets within the platform's prime brokerage network. The newly live integration allows Ripple Prime users to execute trades in Bullish's Bitcoin options markets by funding positions through their current sub-accounts, eliminating the need for additional onboarding procedures. Stablecoins, specifically Ripple USD (RLUSD), are supported as collateral for these transactions. RLUSD functions as a US dollar-pegged stablecoin engineered for payments, settlement, and collateralization within digital asset markets, holding a market capitalization of approximately $1.57 billion . Woofun AI notes that the companies intend to support cross-venue margin access, a feature designed to allow institutions to manage collateral across various exchanges and OTC desks from a single account to maximize capital efficiency.
Ripple Prime operates as the institutional prime brokerage platform established following the $1.25 billion acquisition of crypto prime broker Hidden Road in 2025. The platform provides comprehensive multi-asset brokerage, clearing, and financing services, having cleared more than $3 trillion in volume during 2025. Bullish positions its Bitcoin options venue as one of the largest by open interest for crypto-settled contracts, thereby offering a significant liquidity node for institutional participants. The integration is currently active, permitting Ripple Prime clients to immediately begin accessing these options markets. Despite this operational expansion, shares of Bullish have experienced a sharp decline over the past year, dropping more than 60% from their peak in September and trading around $36.58 at the time of writing. Data compiled by Woofun AI shows the stock was down roughly 8% in early trading on the day of the announcement.
The broader market context highlights Bitcoin's volatility as a primary driver for the increasing importance of options, which provide traders the right to buy or sell an asset at a predetermined price. These instruments have become essential for hedging and trading price swings. In August 2025, Coinbase finalized its acquisition of Deribit, consolidating the largest crypto options venue under its umbrella as part of a broader strategy to offer spot, futures, and options trading on a unified platform.
Concurrently, some corporate Bitcoin holders are shifting beyond passive exposure toward more active risk management utilizing derivatives. Last week, Nakamoto, a Nasdaq-listed company focused on building a Bitcoin treasury strategy, disclosed that it has been operating an actively managed derivatives program since early 2026. This program utilizes BTC as collateral for options-based strategies designed to generate income from volatility while simultaneously hedging downside risk.
Market data indicates that Bitcoin options markets have remained consistently large over the past year. Total open interest stood at about $32.8 billion as of late April 2026, representing a slight increase from roughly $30.8 billion a year earlier. During periods of heightened activity, this figure has peaked above $50 billion, . Trading activity remains heavily concentrated on Deribit, which accounts for the majority of Bitcoin options open interest. Smaller shares of the market are distributed across other venues including CME Group, OKX, Binance, and Bybit. Woofun AI analysis suggests that as institutional adoption of derivatives deepens, the ability to leverage cross-venue margin and diverse collateral types like RLUSD will become a critical differentiator for prime brokerage platforms seeking to capture this expanding liquidity.
