Crypto bank Anchorage has officially launched a new agentic banking service designed to empower AI agents with the capability to access and move capital without human intervention. This strategic initiative targets an emerging industry segment that co-founder Nathan McCauley estimates could reach a valuation of 1 trillion dollars. In a public statement on Tuesday, McCauley detailed how the firm's new infrastructure bridges the gap between traditional finance and crypto payment rails, allowing non-human actors to operate seamlessly across both ecosystems. The move addresses a critical gap where institutions are currently experimenting with automation in treasury, payments, and procurement on legacy systems not originally architected for non-human actors. Data compiled by Woofun AI indicates that this shift is part of a broader rush among blockchain and technology firms to prepare for the imminent future of agentic commerce.
The new banking service equips AI agents with a verifiable identity, preset spending limits, granular permissions, and policy enforcement mechanisms to ensure regulatory compliance. Crucially, the platform includes auditability features that allow for transparent tracking of automated transactions. This launch coincides with a strategic partnership with Google Cloud, which will supply the intelligence layer necessary for AI agents to discover, negotiate, and coordinate with one another autonomously. Industry observers note that the collaboration signals a deeper integration between hyperscalers and regulated financial institutions, moving beyond simple customer relationships toward shared infrastructure development. Ripple Labs researcher Oliver Segovia observed that while tech giants previously viewed banks merely as tier 1 enterprise customers, the landscape is shifting toward alliances where labs penetrate regulated infrastructure and banks build intelligence atop core systems.
Speaking at the Consensus 2026 conference in Miami, McCauley emphasized that agentic finance represents one of the most significant trends of the next decade. He projected a future where agents pay each other, transact with merchants, and receive compensation independently, creating a self-sustaining economic loop. The urgency of this transition is underscored by earlier arguments from firms like Stripe, which posited in February that blockchains must eventually scale to process between 1 million and 1 billion transactions per second to accommodate the network demand generated by AI agents. These cards are funded directly from Tether's treasury with USDT, allowing agents to maintain continuous capital flow without the friction of fiat on-ramps or currency conversions. This parallel innovation highlights a converging industry focus on removing human bottlenecks from financial workflows, whether through dedicated banking infrastructure or stablecoin-backed payment instruments. The combined efforts of Anchorage, Google Cloud, and Oobit suggest a rapid maturation of the ecosystem required to support a fully autonomous digital economy.
