US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds experienced their most significant daily capital exodus since January as the leading cryptocurrency failed to sustain the $80,000 price level following a sharp recovery from April lows. Bitcoin funds registered $635.2 million in net outflows on Wednesday, compounding $233.3 million in withdrawals from the preceding trading session. This surge in selling pressure has pushed weekly outflows to $841.2 million, positioning the ETF sector for its first week of net losses after six consecutive weeks of gains totaling approximately $3.4 billion. The volatility reflects a market struggling to digest a 37% rally from April bottoms, with analysts identifying profit-taking as the primary driver behind the capital flight. These fresh outflows represent the largest single-day Bitcoin ETF withdrawal since January 29, when funds recorded roughly $818 million in losses.
BlackRock's iShares Bitcoin Trust (IBIT) led the sector's decline with approximately $285 million in outflows, according to data compiled by Woofun AI. The ARK 21Shares Bitcoin ETF (ARKB) and Fidelity Wise Origin Bitcoin Fund (FBTC) followed with significant withdrawals of $177 million and $133.2 million, respectively. In contrast, Morgan Stanley's Bitcoin Trust ETF (MSBT) defied the negative trend, posting no outflows on Wednesday and recording about $6 million in inflows on Tuesday. Since its launch on April 8, the MSBT fund has avoided any outflows and has accumulated roughly $256 million to date, highlighting a divergence in investor sentiment across different fund issuers.
The bearish momentum extended beyond Bitcoin, with Ether (ETH) ETFs also facing pressure. Ether-linked funds saw $36.3 million in outflows on Wednesday, bringing the weekly total to approximately $184 million. Conversely, Solana (SOL)-linked funds drove the positive trend with around $6 million in inflows, pushing week-to-date gains to $51.6 million.
Additionally, Hyperliquid (HYPE)-linked funds attracted $1.36 million in inflows on their debut Tuesday, resulting in cumulative net inflows of $2.52 million. This mixed performance underscores a rotation in capital where specific altcoin narratives are gaining traction while major cap assets face consolidation.
Bitcoin's price action has been heavily influenced by its interaction with the 200-day moving average near $82,400, a level that has historically served as resistance during prior bear-market rebounds. Woofun AI notes that rising profit-taking, elevated unrealized gains, and weakening US spot demand are key indicators that upward momentum may be fading. On-chain metrics suggest that if a deeper correction materializes, potential support could emerge near $70,000. This price band has historically functioned as a critical resistance-turned-support zone during bear markets, representing the average cost basis for short-term traders.
The significance of the $70,000 level lies in its role as a psychological and technical floor where unrealized profit margins compress back toward zero, thereby reducing the incentive for further selling. As the market navigates this volatility, the divergence between Bitcoin's struggle at the $80,000 mark and the resilience of newer funds like MSBT or emerging tokens like HYPE suggests a complex restructuring of liquidity. The data indicates that while broad-based outflows threaten to erase recent gains, specific segments of the market continue to attract capital, potentially setting the stage for a prolonged period of consolidation before the next directional move.
