Woofun AI reports that Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix are advancing plans for a large-scale semiconductor cluster investment across the Hunan and Chungcheong regions, with total capital expenditure projected to reach hundreds of trillions of Korean Won. The two industry leaders are finalizing details for a comprehensive regional development strategy, which will be formally unveiled at the 'National Land Spatial Transformation' government-private joint meeting hosted by President Lee Jae-myung at the Blue House later this month.
Initially, market expectations focused primarily on back-end packaging facilities; however, current discussions now encompass front-end memory semiconductor production as well. This expansion of scope suggests a significant increase in investment magnitude, with analysts estimating the combined outlay could range between 300 trillion and 400 trillion Korean Won, given that a single semiconductor fab requires at least 60 trillion Korean Won. To finalize these strategic initiatives, President Lee Jae-myung is scheduled to meet with Samsung Electronics Chairman Lee Jae-yong on the 25th, following a prior discussion with SK Group Chairman Chey Tae-won on the 19th.
