Per Woofun AI, a New York resident was sentenced by a U.S. court to 15 months in prison and three years of supervised release for orchestrating a sophisticated cryptocurrency fraud scheme. The defendant impersonated a prominent crypto influencer on Telegram, leveraging this false identity to deceive investors with fabricated claims regarding staking returns. He promised victims "guaranteed returns" through various crypto staking or investment opportunities, successfully convincing numerous individuals to transfer their digital assets into wallets under his exclusive control.

In reality, the perpetrator never executed any legitimate staking operations. Instead, he ceased all communication with victims immediately after securing their funds, effectively stealing the assets. This fraudulent activity resulted in total losses exceeding $1.4 million.

However, the U.S. government has subsequently recovered and seized the majority of the stolen money, mitigating the financial impact on the defrauded parties.
