South Korea Credit Card Stablecoin Pilot Ends July, Firms Shift to Independent Strategies

Woofun AI reports that the joint technical verification for Korean won stablecoins by South Korea's credit card industry will conclude by late July, with no intention to form new working groups. The pilot validated payment capabilities via QR codes and POS terminals, alongside the conversion of regional currencies, vouchers, and points into stablecoins.

Card issuers will now advance independent strategies. Shinhan Card and KB Kookmin Card have connected to the Solana network. BC Card completed tests for foreign-held stablecoin payments at domestic merchants. Woori Card intends to integrate stablecoin payments into its WON Card app. Samsung Card, alongside Samsung Securities and Samsung SDS, invested 612.8 billion Korean won for a 4% stake in Dunamu, Upbit's parent, to explore digital asset features on the "Monimo" platform.
