Woofun AI reports that Patrick Witt has deferred his mandatory military training to remain at the White House and drive the CLARITY Act through the Senate. This decision ensures the White House retains its lead negotiator during a critical legislative window, prioritizing the passage of the first comprehensive US regulatory framework for the crypto market over immediate service obligations.
Witt, who has served as the executive director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets since August, was originally scheduled to report for Judge Advocate General (JAG) training with the Georgia Army National Guard on July 27. The training is designed to qualify him to serve as a legal officer in the Guard.
However, Witt announced on X that his training has been postponed, allowing him to see the legislative effort through to completion. This marks the second time he has delayed his service; he previously deferred training in April to continue working on CLARITY Act negotiations, which extended longer than anticipated.
Concurrently, Harry Jung, the Deputy Director of the President’s Council of Advisors for Digital Assets, announced his departure from government service. Jung stated on X that he will leave his post in two weeks, expressing gratitude for the past two years that transformed America’s position on crypto. Jung was initially slated to assume Witt’s responsibilities within the crypto council during Witt’s military leave, but his exit alters the leadership transition plan.
The CLARITY Act now faces a definitive deadline to pass the Senate before the Aug. 8 recess. With Witt remaining as the lead negotiator and legal officer, the administration aims to secure final approval before lawmakers depart for the summer break.
