Woofun AI reports that Han Hu, Tencent's Chief Scientist for Heterogeneous Multimodal Understanding, has resigned to establish an independent venture. Yonglong Tian, a former OpenAI researcher, assumes leadership of Visual Language Model development and will report directly to Yunshui Yao.

Han Hu joined Tencent in early 2025 from Microsoft Research Asia and contributed to World Model development within the Large Language Model Department's Frontier Research Group. With Tian taking over VLM responsibilities, Hu's previous team may pivot its focus toward World Model initiatives.
