Woofun AI reports that BancaStato has activated regulated cryptocurrency trading capabilities by integrating Sygnum’s digital asset services with Avaloq’s banking software infrastructure. This strategic alignment enables the Swiss cantonal bank to offer compliant crypto asset management directly through its existing client channels.
The technical architecture connects Sygnum’s application programming interface (API) directly to Avaloq’s core banking platform, eliminating the need for a separate order management system. This streamlined setup allows customers to buy, sell, and hold Bitcoin (BTC), Ether (ETH), Litecoin (LTC), and Solana (SOL) via standard web and mobile banking applications. By removing operational complexity, the integration facilitates easier feature expansion while maintaining regulatory compliance within the bank’s established digital ecosystem.
Structurally, BancaStato becomes the first institution to utilize Avaloq’s software-as-a-service platform for direct crypto asset trading via Sygnum’s API. Fritz Jost, Sygnum’s chief B2B officer, characterized this launch as a "significant step in the maturity and scalability of regulated digital asset infrastructure." The bank joins a growing cohort of more than 25 financial institutions leveraging Sygnum’s B2B platform, which includes notable partners such as Societe Generale-FORGE, PostFinance, and VZ Depotbank.
Per Woofun AI, the regulatory framework supporting this expansion was solidified when Sygnum Europe AG, the Liechtenstein-based subsidiary, secured a crypto-asset service provider (CASP) license in late June. Issued by the Financial Market Authority (FMA), this license ensures compliance with the European Union’s Markets in Crypto-Assets (MiCA) regulation. The approval arrived just before the MiCA transitional period concluded on July 1, permitting Sygnum Europe to deliver fully regulated crypto asset services under the new legal standards.
This development underscores the deepening integration of traditional banking infrastructure with digital asset protocols in the Ticino region. As Zurich-based Avaloq continues to serve as the technical backbone, the collaboration signals a broader industry shift toward standardized, compliant crypto trading interfaces. This marks a definitive move away from fragmented custody solutions toward unified banking experiences.
