El Salvador Crypto Remittances Rise 39.1% to $35.4M in H1 2026
Crypto settlements hit $35.4M in H1 2026, up 39.1% YoY but only 0.7% of total remittances. Traditional channels retain >84% share as Chivo Wallet winds down.
Woofun AI data shows that El Salvador processed $35.4 million in cryptocurrency remittances during the first half of 2026, representing a 39.1% increase from the $25.4 million recorded in the same period of 2025. Despite this growth, digital assets accounted for merely 0.7% of the $5 billion total remittance volume, with banks and traditional services maintaining over 84% market share.
The government’s Chivo Wallet is gradually ceasing operations pursuant to an IMF credit agreement, limiting the penetration of digital assets despite the 2021 legislation that established Bitcoin as legal tender.
